Powerful Strategies to Multiply Your Blog's Traffic

Why Most New Blog Posts Never Reach Page One (and What the Few That Do Have in Common)

Ahrefs, the SEO software company, tracked a large sample of newly published pages for a full year and counted how many reached Google's top ten for at least one keyword. Depending on how the sample was filtered, the answer was between 1.74% and 6.11%. Pick whichever figure you prefer. Either way, the typical new post spends its first year outside the top ten. ahrefs

That is discouraging enough, but the pages that do break through now face a second problem. Pew Research found that people click a regular search result in about 8% of visits when Google shows an AI summary, against 15% when it doesn't. Ahrefs, using December 2025 data, found that an AI Overview goes along with a 58% lower click-through rate for the page in first position. Seer Interactive saw click rates edge back up in early 2026 and describes that as stabilization rather than recovery. Study Confirms Google AI Overviews Cut Organic Clicks 38% +2

Blogs still work. The ones that grow now simply do a few things differently from the advice most of us learned in 2018. Four habits show up again and again.

1. They pick fights they can win.

A new domain chasing a broad, high-volume phrase is up against sites that have had years to build authority. Ahrefs found that ranking for high-volume keywords takes longer than for low-volume ones, and about 94% of the pages in its sample never ranked for a high-volume keyword at all. Specific questions are a better bet. "Blog monetization" is a fight for giants. "How much does a blog with 10,000 monthly visitors earn from ads?" is a question a small site can answer better than anyone. ahrefs

2. They publish what a summary can't replace.

If a post can be assembled from the top five search results, an AI summary will do that job before your reader ever clicks. What a summary can't copy is a test you ran, numbers you collected, a template you built, or a position you're willing to defend. Google says its systems aim to reward quality content, and that using automation, AI included, mainly to manipulate rankings breaks its spam policies. Its "scaled content abuse" rule covers publishing many pages mainly to game rankings, however they were made. The safe strategy and the profitable one turn out to be the same: fewer posts, each with something in it that exists nowhere else. googlerankai

3. They write titles like they're selling something.

The title decides whether the post gets opened at all. Compare "Blog Monetization Tips" with "How Much Can a 10,000-Visitor Blog Actually Earn? The Math, Line by Line." The second names a real question, promises a specific kind of answer, and makes clear the reader will get numbers instead of slogans. A quick test: could someone guess what they'll know after clicking? If yes, the title is doing its job.

4. They build a way to bring readers back.

This is the habit that decides whether traffic ever turns into income. Search can send a visitor once. What your blog is worth after that first visit, and on the days search sends less, depends on something Google doesn't control. Part 2 starts here.

Part 2 puts numbers on all of it. Members get:

  1. The one formula that explains why two blogs with the same traffic can differ by a factor of ten or more in income

  2. Realistic income ranges for ads, affiliate links and your own products, each with its assumptions shown so you can plug in your own figures

  3. The order in which to add income streams, and which one to leave for last

  4. A five-email welcome sequence that turns first-time readers into buyers without pressure

  5. A 90-day plan with weekly targets, plus the four mistakes that cost new blogs the most time
